Job 1: Undergraduate Research Assistant

Description & Duties:
This is a full-time position in the Department of Horticultural Science in Dr. Mary Rogers’ lab on UMN’s St. Paul campus. Our lab focuses on organic and sustainable horticultural food production systems. Currently, we have several agricultural research projects, including a day-neutral, low-tunnel strawberry fertility study and an integrated pest management (IPM) research project evaluating several broccoli cultivars.
In this position, the prospective undergrad employee would work closely with several graduate students both in the field and in the lab. Field work includes, but is not limited to, planting, maintaining, and harvesting strawberries and broccoli; preparing and applying weekly fertilizer; weekly harvesting and data collection on strawberries; weekly insect monitoring on broccoli; photographing; and assisting in a controlled herbivory study. Lab work includes, but is not limited to, plant material processing, insect identification, data entry, and general tidiness and organization.

- Must be able and willing to work up to 40 hrs/week outdoors

Rate of pay: dependent upon work study funds and experience; $9.00 - $10.00/hour
Hours/Week: 40 hrs/week, Monday – Friday; vacation time negotiable
